AHA BLS Instructor Training Prerequisites / Course Details

Course Prerequisites
- Current AHA BLS Provider Certification: Your certification card must be valid and unexpired. A Heartsaver card is not acceptable for this class.
- BLS Provider Skills: You must demonstrate exemplary skills. See the skills list below.
- Instructor Exam: You must pass the BLS instructor exam.
- AHA Training Center Alignment: Speak with an AHA Training Center Coordinator for approval before attending the Instructor Course. All students who complete their training with us are automatically aligned with Arise & RESQ.
Required Online Class
You must complete the Instructor Essentials Online Class, included in the pricing. This 2-hour course is mandatory for all instructor candidates. Bring your completion certificate to the in-person class.
Required Course Materials
You must obtain the following materials before class starts. Information on how to get these materials will be in your course orientation packet after registration. Note that prices may vary based on format (digital or physical) but are current as of 2024.
- AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers Instructor Manual: $49.75
- AHA BLS for Healthcare Providers Student Manual: $18.50
- BLS for Healthcare Providers Course and Renewal Course DVD or Digital Video: $105.00

Required Skill Proficiencies
You must demonstrate these skills correctly at the start of the Instructor course:
- 1 Rescuer Adult CPR (BLS Course)
- 2 Rescuer Adult CPR with AED (BLS Course)
- 1 Rescuer Infant CPR (BLS Course)
- 2 Rescuer Infant CPR (BLS Course)
How to Prepare for the AHA BLS Instructor Course
Practice Your Skills: Use the BLS Instructor Manual’s skill check-off sheet to evaluate yourself. Skills are explained step by step. Study the checklist and practice each skill. You can even observe a friend performing the skill and check off the steps they complete correctly. Rewatch AHA BLS course videos or audit a BLS course by contacting CPR School House. Remember, if you cannot demonstrate these skills at the beginning of the course, you will not be permitted to continue.
